Job Description:

Youth and Gender Officer
USAID Family Health and Nutrition( FHN) is a five-year, USAID-funded project that will contribute to improving the health status of Women and Children. This will be achieved through collaboration with the Government of the Republic of Zambia (GRZ), Ministry of Health (MOH), communities and other local partners to improve health system performance and to deliver high-quality, accessible reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health (RMNCAH) care. Working in four provinces, Eastern, Luapula, Southern, and Mucihnga, FHN will work with MOH provincial and district counterparts to deliver high-quality services, strengthen health systems, and increase community engagement.
Job Title: Youth and Gender Officer
Location: Eastern Province
Reports to: Youth and Gender Advisor
Expected Travel: Provincial travel will be required (50%) including to remote districts.
Position Overview
Youth and Gender Officer (YGO), guided by FHN technical leads across all objectives, will work closely with provincial health office (PHO) colleagues to deliver FHN technical assistance (TA) in line with the project strategies contributing to medium-term expenditure framework (MTEF) and RMNCAH&N Continuum of Care (CoC) annual planning, support during implementation of activities, monitoring results and recommending adjustments in plans as needed.
Responsibilities
Foster and establish productive working relationships with PHO staff.
Support PHO prepare for annual planning by reviewing facility and district performance to prioritize interventions.
Coordinate delivery of specialized TA from FHN technical experts at the provincial and district levels.
Contribute to the implementation of a youth engagement strategy on RMNCAH&N and other resources as required
Guide PHO to institutionalize strategic interventions including routine on-site mentorship, facility adolescent and youth health reviews, service quality assessments, performance assessments and provincial and district-integrated meetings.
Coordinate closely with the PHOs and other implementing partners in the district to ensure appropriate and effective linkages between community-based and facility-based interventions.
Contribute to FHN annual work plan, annual Planning Cycle (MTEF) report, Sustainability Framework, annual progress reports, final activity report and other contract deliverables.
Conduct site and community visits to monitor MTEF and RMNCAH&N CoC program implementation and provide TA.
Support PHOs build a robust supervision system that transforms technical supportive supervision into problem-solving motivational visits.
Use standardized project management tools and techniques to define scope, budget activities, and schedule work and introduce project monitoring tools to monitor the scope, schedule, and cost of MOH during the year in developing MTEF and RMNCAH&N CoC plans.
Identify and document program successes, best practices, challenges and lessons learned.
Support MOH to manage changes during the implementation of RMNCAH&N CoC grants in line with grant requirements.
Submit routine reports for assigned districts in line with FHN reporting requirements including MTEF planning report.
Coordinate with Provincial TA Lead for FHN direct implementation of activities in assigned districts.
Qualifications
Degree in public health or related field with 3 to 5 years experience in public health, health administration, public administration, business administration, or related field.
Experience working on youth and adolescent health programming
Experience in Gender related programming and policy development
Strong communication and team-building skills
Effective teaching and coaching skills.
Demonstrated ability to lead efficient management processes and systems across a province-wide, decentralized program.
Proven leadership, strategic thinking, team-building skills, and representational skills.
Strong knowledge of the Zambian health system.
Previous experience working in Luapula, Muchinga, Southern, or Eastern Provinces.

Major responsibilities and duties
Trauma Informed Childcare
Provide mental health and one-on-one counselling or group therapy.
Interview and evaluate children problems to ensure successful and correct treatment and diagnosis.
Collaborate with counsellors, physicians, and nurses to plan and coordinate treatment, drawing on therapy/counseling experience and child’s needs were need arises.
Educate children, caregivers, parents and community members about mental and physical illness, abuse, medication, and available community resources
Modify treatment plans according to changes in child status.
Refer children or family to community resources for treatment to assist in recovery from trauma, other mental or physical illness, following through to ensure service efficacy
Guide children families/caregivers during treatment. Families also need to know the nature of the mental health conditions of children, and what they can do to help. Counseling families not only helps clients, but also strengthens their support system.
Monitoring and Evaluation
Monitor, evaluate, and record child progress with respect to treatment goals
Maintaining accurate records and preparing reports for legal action and where need be giving evidence in court.
Provide complete documentation and records of assessments and treatment according to standard operating procedures.
Interview children, review records, conduct assessments, and confer with professionals to evaluate the mental or physical condition of children
Production of monthly reports and documentation of success stories
Research on child and adolescent therapies and share the report with Trauma team and management
Behavioral Change management
Discussing and analyzing the behavioral issues and problems of the children and families
Aiding and addressing children related issues of trauma, drug abuse, alcoholism, violence etc.
Monitoring the behavioral actions of the children
Ensuring the safety and well-being of the children under their supervision
Working in regulation of the state and federal norms
Child Protection and safeguarding
Work with Safeguarding Officer to ensure adequate understanding of the Child Protection and safeguarding policy by staff, children, and other stakeholders that KAZ may be working with under trauma and counselling.
Ensure compliance to policy provisions including collaboration with relevant Senior Management and law enforcers in the unlikely event that cases of child abuse are recorded.
Lead assessments on risks and preparedness to respond to child abuse incidents.
Qualifications and Experience
An established Christian with ability to share the gospel and use the word of God to strengthen and give inspiration to children and families.
Must have a Diploma in Clinical Psychology. A degree in clinical Psychology shall be an added advantage.
Practical experience in child counselling, rehabilitation, or behavioral monitoring for not less than 2 years.
Three years’ practical experience working with children in a similar setting may be strongly desired.
Experience in monitoring and evaluation of the cases managed is added advantage.
Must be knowledgeable of different therapeutic methods and be able to switch between different approaches to meet each child’s needs.
Excellent communication skills, specifically the ability to communicate with children of different ages and from different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
Aware of all professional, ethical, and legal regulations as determined by relevant regulatory bodies and the law.
Must hold a valid practicing license as a psychologist or counsellor.
Must be fluent in English, Lozi and Nyanja

MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST
POSITION IS FULL-TIME
Key Competency Requirements:
- Relevant Diploma qualification in Biomedical Science
- Current registration with HPCZ
- Minimum 1 year relevant working experience
- Must be computer literate
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Must have good telephone etiquette
- Must be customer-oriented with good interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a pressurized environment
- Ability to work various shift patterns, including night shifts
- Attention to detail and maintain confidentiality
Key Responsibilities:
- Performs diagnostic testing procedures, reviews and verifies results, and interacts with pathologists on technical matters to provide all relevant data for the prevention, diagnosis, or treatment of diseases.
- Operates, maintains, and calibrates the equipment used in the laboratory to ensure it is functioning efficiently and providing accurate results. This includes recording instrument maintenance and quality control results, troubleshooting mal-functioning equipment, and taking corrective actions.
- Implements sound housekeeping procedures and works effectively as a team member to ensure a safe working environment in accordance with safety protocols. Responsibilities include:
- Ongoing maintenance of quality control standards
- Adherence to infection control measures
- Correct disposal of bio-hazardous waste
- Participation (as per delegated responsibilities) in internal and external audits.
- Reports incidents, including instrument failures, problem solutions, and reads documents and actions tasks on the laboratory information management system in compliance with relevant organizational policy.
- Adheres to professional conduct requirements in line with organizational policy and relevant professional body ethical standards.
- Ensures the implementation of service levels and quality standards in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures and service level agreements.
