BORDA  Zambia 
The Bremen Overseas Research & Development Association (BORDA) is a technical expert organisation, specialized in the field of sustainable environmental protection through integrated sanitation solutions. The organisations activities aim at making neighbourhoods more liveable by developing and implementing innovative on-site sanitation solutions that build climate resilience, strengthen social structures, and foster the sustainable and attentive handling of natural resources. BORDA e.V. is active outside Germany in over 20 countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Its activities focus on achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by enabling the transition towards liveable and inclusive cities which give disadvantaged urban and peri-urban populations access to essential public services such as on-site sanitation, faecal sludge management, solid waste management, energy, and water.

In Zambia, BORDA is active since 2009. In 2016, BORDA established the BORDA Zambia Country Office. We are specialized in the field of sustainable environmental protection through integrated sanitation solutions. Our activities aim at making neighbourhoods more liveable by developing and implementing innovative on-site sanitation solutions that build climate resilience, strengthen social structures, and foster the sustainable and attentive handling of natural resources. We support holistic approaches on policy formulation, participatory urban planning processes and infrastructure development. BORDA Zambia has and continues to work closely with local partners in Zambia to reimagine water, sanitation and solid waste management systems that are based on a foundation of research, customised solutions in order to realise water and sanitation for all. BORDA Zambia’s work highlights that innovation is not only about technology but also about generating new approaches that work for local communities and keep working.

The Project 
The WASH’n’soul project funded by Viva con Aqua and soulbottles and implemented by BORDA aims at making the human right to water and sanitation a reality through access to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services that are sustainable, while establishing and incorporating structures and concepts for waste management, social entrepreneurship and climate protection.

Phase 1 of the Project came to an end in January 2024 and was successfully implemented in 20 schools in Lusaka. Riding on the lessons learnt and key outcomes of Phase 1, the Project will be implemented in a further 10 schools in a Phase 2. Implementation of the Project will take place from February 2024 to January 2026.

Responsibilities
The position holder is responsible for:
Ensuring that the project is delivered on-time, within scope and within budget,
Creating and maintaining a comprehensive project documentation and reporting mechanisms,
Ensure that budgetary objectives are met and adjustments are made to project constraints based on sound financial analysis.
In this context, the position holder fulfils the following tasks:
Tasks

Project management  
The position holder: 
Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule and project costs using appropriate verification techniques,
Coordinate internal project staff and third parties for successful project implementation,
Perform project progress tracking and monitoring; specifically, to analyse the successful completion of short and long-term goals,
Perform project risk management in order to minimize project risks,
Coordinate the development of quarterly and annual project implementation plans and budgets,
Prepare quarterly and annual narrative reports,
Oversee the preparation of quarterly and annual financial reports,
Management of frequent team project specific team meetings,
Coordination of activity specific team meetings,
Oversee implementation of all project activities,
Review of and input into project related documents such as reports, IEC materials, reports,
Oversee proper and up to date filing of all project related documentation.

Financial management 
The position holder: 
Control and check of financial and funding requests related to project activities,
Checking and approval of all project related procurement in line with BORDA Zambia standards and procedures.

Required qualifications, competences and experience.  
Qualifications  
Master’s degree in water resource management, water and wastewater management, public health, geography, civil engineering, social science, urban planning, communication or similar field.

Professional Experience 
Minimum 5 years of professional work experience in the development sector (NGOs/international development organisations) with focus on WASH/ solid waste management,
Professional experience in project management for NGOs/international development organisations,
Professional experience working with communities and/or schools in Lusaka’s peri-urban areas.

Knowledge and Skills
Excellent communication skills, with effective communication with different audiences, including colleagues, the public, cooperating partners, and media representatives,
Strong ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, with tight deadlines,
Strong problem-solving skills and flexibility,
A keen eye for details, ensuring accuracy and consistency,
Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, PowerPoint and Excel,
Strategic, innovative and creative thinking,
Ability to work in a team,
Excellent written and spoken English.
