Mechanic
Background
African Parks is a non-profit conservation organization founded in 2000 that manages 22 national parks and protected areas in 12 countries covering 20 million hectares. This is achieved through long-term agreements with national governments, putting in place funding solutions and establishing good governance and management to achieve ecological, social and financial sustainability.
Under the supervision of the Workshop Manager, the Mechanic will be responsible for performing the following tasks:
1. Inspect vehicles, Machines, engines, transmissions, etc. and run diagnostics to discover functionality issues
2. Perform refurbishment operations (shock absorbers, tires, brake discs and pads, batteries, filters etc.)
3. Build and assemble machines or mechanical components for vehicles as needed
4. Carry out repairs on vehicles and machines with the aim of maximum reliability.
5. Resolve reported issues and resolve them in a timely manner
6. Perform comprehensive maintenance of vehicles, machinery, equipment and mechanical equipment and mechanical and mechanized systems
7. Clean and apply lubricants to machine components
8. Maintain fluids and components of engines and machines
9. Provide advice on proper maintenance and preventive measures to machine and Vehicle users
10. Undertake other assigned tasks (e.g., repair hydraulic systems, paint vehicles, etc.)
11. Keep work logs and report problems
12. And any other task at the request of the supervisor
Qualifications
Diploma is preferred (in automotive mechanics)
Five-years’ Experience as a mechanic
Knowledge in the field of heavy machinery will be an added advantage
Excellent knowledge of hydraulic, electrical and other engines, machines and systems and their components
Ability to use various hand tools (screwdrivers, spanners, etc.) and precision measuring tools (e.g. calipers)
Ability to follow established procedures and practices and read instructions, plans, etc.
A strong commitment to all health and safety guidelines
